Aggies Complete Day One At Raleigh Relays
RALEIGH – Sophomore Nakita Gray is slowly making a come back after not having a successful weekend at the 49er Classic. At the Raleigh Relays at Paul Derr Track, Gray was able to jump 5-feet, 8 ¾ inches, placing third overall in the invitational section of the women’s high jump.
The men’s 1,600 meter spring medley is a relay that requires two 200 meter runs, a 400-meter run while the anchor runs an 800.
The Aggies A-team placed third behind Hampton and Michigan State. The relay consisted of seniors Desmond Lawrence and Darryl Williams and freshmen Dorian Claggett and Josiah Elliott who finished at 3:25.34. The Aggies B-team, senior Jeffery Lewis, freshmen Joshua Peoples and Barry Harris and junior Saeed Jones finished in fifth place at a time of 3:26.50.
Senior Jessica Farr qualified for the women’s 100 meters by placing sixth at 11.76.
Freshman Todd Townsend placed fifth in the men’s 110-meter hurdles, qualifying him to return to the finals tomorrow. Townsend improved his time to 14.24, after his 14.52 last weekend.
Sophomores Demetria Dickens and Paige McIntosh had a successful day in the women’s discus by throwing personal bests. Dickens placed 12th, throwing the discus 143-feet, 11 inches. McIntosh finished 44th at 110-feet, 11 inches.
“A good start to the weekend,” said Duane Ross, director of track and field programs. “Todd (Townsend) and Jessica (Farr) will represent us well tomorrow in the finals of their events. We still need some improvement in other areas, specifically the field event areas where we need better discipline and focus. It’s good to have quality competitions like this close to home where our families, friends and alums can come support while also allowing us to get a lot of quality preparation in.”
The meet is scheduled to continue Saturday morning at 9 a.m., with the men’s 10,000 meter run.
