GREENSBORO – The North Carolina A&T softball team will host crosstown rival UNC Greensboro on Wednesday, March 5 for a single game beginning at 3 p.m., at the Lady Aggie Softball Complex.

The Aggies (3-6 overall) will be looking to snap a four-game losing streak after dropping games to St. Francis, Rider, and a doubleheader to Gardner-Webb.

The Spartans (8-8) went 3-1 last weekend at the UNCW Invitational. UNCG picked up wins against Bucknell and Brown while splitting a pair of games with UNCW.

Last season when both teams met, the Spartans left the Lady Aggie Softball Complex with a pair of wins. UNCG defeated A&T 10-1 and 11-8. Junior Raven Smith finished with five hits in the series, while seniors Shelby Snyder, Jax Kaye Woodard, and Sabrina Edmonds recorded two hits in the second game where the Aggies finished with 13 hits.

This season, A&T debuted freshman Dasia Moore who has helped lead its offense, Moore has already tallied four multi-hit games and a team-high nine hits. Senior Tranea Jones along with Edmonds hasn’t had any problem bringing runs in and has each recorded seven RBI.

In the circle, the Aggies have compiled a 5.04 ERA behind freshman Maiven McKnight (2.94), sophomore Janika May (5.25) and senior Shelby Snyder (7.70).

UNCG has allowed 4.34 earned runs a game from pitchers Raeanne Hanks (3.89), Lacy Leary (4.44), and Nicole Thomas (4.98). Hanks is 6-3 in the circle and has recorded 50 strikeouts in 50.1 innings pitched.

Katelyn Bedwell is batting a team-leading .426 including 20 hits, seven being doubles, and 11 RBI. Tatiana Alcala (.386), Allison Geiner (.360), Tory Wright (.349), and Lindsay Thomas (.308) have started in every game for the Spartans and have all tallied at least 15 hits.

Following Wednesday’ game, the Aggies will head to the Tennessee State Tournament beginning on Friday, March 7. A&T will face Saint Louis and TSU on Friday at 4:30 p.m. and 6:45 p.m., respectively.
