GREENSBORO – The North Carolina A&T softball team will visit Norfolk State on Friday, March 14 for a pair of non-conference games set to begin at 2 p.m., at the NSU Softball Field.
The Aggies (5-10 overall) are 1-3 on the road and are coming off a 2-3 mark at the TSU Invitational last weekend.
The Spartans (3-12) are 2-5 at NSU Softball field with two of their three wins this season over Yale and UMBC. NSU snapped a five-game losing streak with a 7-2 win over Connecticut on Mar. 9 at the Winthrop/Adidas Invitational.
A&T is still trying to find balance in its lineup in the first few weeks of the season. Its offense has seen several contributors however Sabrina Edmonds has started off her senior season on a good note. She is batting .333 and has hit a team-leading three homers. Newcomer Dasia Moore leads A&T in hits (14), doubles (five) and is hitting .326. As a team A&T is hitting .327.
NSU is led by a trio of Spartans who are batting over .300. Heather Dunning (.432) leads her team in hits (19), followed by Alina Moriarty (16) who is hitting .333, and Morgan Boyd (15), who has put together a .326 batting average. Moriarty is NSU’s big stick that has driven in 10 runs and hit four homers. The Spartans are hitting .240, while their opponents have tabbed a .324 average.
Jaime Schulle (3-5) is the only pitcher to record a win for the Spartans. She’s recorded an ERA of 2.86 and struck out 27 batters. The Aggies may also see Stephanie Wheatley (3.53 ERA) and Liz Riley (10.50 ERA) in the circle who have combined for 23 strikeouts.
Sophomore Janika May is 3-3 and has averaged a team-low 4.45 ERA. Freshman Maiven McKnight (5.17) and senior Shelby Snyder (6.05) have also appeared in the circle as the Aggies have yielded a team ERA of 5.16.
Following Friday’s doubleheader, A&T will host Towson on Tuesday, March 18 for a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m., at the Lady Aggies Softball Complex.
