GREENSBORO – The North Carolina A&T softball team is gearing up for another MEAC weekend series as it hosts Bethune-Cookman, beginning with a doubleheader on Friday, April 18 at 1 p.m. at the Lady Aggie Softball Complex. The final game of the series will take place on Saturday, April 19 at noon.

Both the Aggies (14-19, 6-3) and Wildcats (15-25, 5-1) enter the matchup on a two-game losing streak. A&T is currently second in the MEAC southern division behind  B-CU who’s only conference loss was a 3-2 decision at S.C. State on April 6.

Last season, the Wildcats won two out of three games against the Aggies in Daytona Beach. The last time B-CU was at the Lady Aggie Softball Complex in 2012 it did some damage by outscoring A&T 28-9 in a three-game sweep.

Bethune-Cookman is just 2-6 on the road this season while A&T is 5-5 at home. Each team resembles one another offensively as they each are batting .241.

For the Aggies, senior Sabrina Edmonds continues to be their answer at the plate. Edmonds is hitting a team-high .329 and leads A&T in RBI (24) and home runs (7). Freshman Dasia Moore (.308) is the team’s most consistent hitter, tallying 32 hits and she has recorded 11 multi-hit games.

B-CU’s veteran leadership has come at the hands of junior Calesha Shelly (.338) and senior Kelsey Rodney (.328).  Shelly has recorded 46 hits while Rodney is second on the team in RBI (20) behind freshman Kaitlin Alamprese (25).

A&T’s ace, sophomore Janika May (3.85 ERA) will be looking to even her record as she sits at 7-8 on the year in the circle. May leads the Aggies with 45 strikeouts. Senior Shelby Snyder (4.20) and freshman Maiven McKnight (4.85) have each struck out 19 batters.

The Wildcats have been led by a pair of freshmen in the circle. Freshman Bailey Conner (8-11) is second in the MEAC in strikeouts (102) and has tossed four shutouts. Freshman Sabrina Anguiano (7-13) has tabbed a team-low 3.47 ERA and has recorded 80 strikeouts.

Following the weekend MEAC series, the Aggies will visit Hampton on Tuesday, April 22 for a non-conference doubleheader starting at 2 p.m.
