GREENSBORO – The North Carolina A&T softball team earned the fourth seed in the southern division heading into Thursday’s MEAC tournament at the Ormond Beach Sports Complex in Ormond Beach, Fla.

The Aggies (16-26) finished with an 8-7 mark in league play and will face northern divisional champion Delaware State (32-15) on Thursday, May 8 at 10 a.m. The Hornets finished with a 15-3 record in the northern division.

A&T clinched the fourth spot over the weekend when it won two out of three over rival N.C. Central in the regular-season finale.

Bethune-Cookman clinched the top spot in the southern division and will take on fourth seeded Coppin State. Florida A&M and Savannah State earned the second and third seeds respectively and will meet Norfolk State and defending tournament champs Hampton in the second round of games on Thursday.

Only the top four teams from each division will compete for the tournament title.  Howard, Maryland Eastern Shore, North Carolina Central, Morgan State, and South Carolina State were all eliminated from conference play based on their regular season finish.
