A&T Softball Finally Opens Season
GREENSBORO - The North Carolina A&T softball team finally got an opportunity to open the 2013 season. Canisius spoiled the debut with a 12-0 win over the Aggies during the annual North Carolina A&T Softball Invitational played at the Lady Aggies Softball Complex on Sunday.
The Aggies had their season-opening doubleheader on Feb. 16 cancelled because of inclement weather. They were scheduled to open the North Carolina A&T Softball Invitational on Friday, but rain on Friday and Saturday postponed the start of the invitational until Sunday.
Despite A&T's rough start to the season, the Aggies second game holds promise. After losing to the Golden Griffins, the Aggies returned to the field to play Maryland Eastern Shore at 5 p.m. But without enough daylight remaining, the two teams had to stop the game in the fourth inning with the Aggies leading 7-4.
The two teams will resume the game Monday afternoon at 3 p.m. They will then play a full game after completing Sunday's suspended contest at the Lady Aggies Softball Complex. Monday's invitational schedule is as follows:
Game 1: 9 a.m. St. Francis vs. Canisius
Game 2: 11 a.m. Canisius vs. UMES
Game 3: 1 p.m. St. Francis vs. A&T
Game 4: 3 p.m. UMES vs. A&T (It will be a continuation of Sunday's game that was suspended because of darkness)
Game 5: 4 p.m. UMES vs. A&T
