GREENSBORO-The North Carolina A&T softball team lost both ends of a doubleheader against Norfolk State, 16-2 and 16-8, at the Lady Aggie Softball Complex on a breezy Wednesday afternoon.

Right fielder Detavia Kenan batted 3-for-7 on the day.  Left fielder Raven Smith went 3-for-6 with a double, a home run, three RBI and two runs scored.  Jax Woodard finished 3-for-7 with a double, three runs scored and two RBI.

The Spartans (6-12) totaled 36 hits on Wednesday, and were able to capitalize on several timely hits to post big innings.  But the Aggies (1-16) fought back, and didn't go down without adding a few more runs in the second game.

In Game 2, the Aggies fell behind early.  Norfolk State scored two runs on a two-run RBI double to left field by Gipsy Ramirez in the first inning, and brought home five runs on five hits in the second to take a 7-0 lead.   Sophomore Raven Smith erased the A&T goose egg with a solo shot over the center field wall to make it 7-1 in the bottom of the second for her fourth home run on the year.  NSU scored two more in the third frame to take a 9-1 lead.

With two out and one on, junior catcher Sabrina Edmonds hit her fifth home run of the year, as she slammed it over the right field wall to make it a 9-3 game in the bottom of the third.

NSU left fielder Haley Ward led off the fifth inning with a triple, and scored as right fielder Heather Dunning grounded out to second baseman Zebresha Blakeney to score the tenth Spartan run.  A&T added two more in the bottom of the fifth to pull within 10-5 on an RBI double by Woodward and an RBI single by Smith.

Norfolk State posted six runs on five hits to open the seventh inning.  The Aggies responded by recording three runs in an effort to rally.  Woodard led off with a single to right, and advanced to second as Edmonds walked.  Smith doubled to right field to bring home Woodard.  A two-run RBI single by Amari McNeil brought home the final A&T runs moments later.  Blakeney grounded out to first to end the game.

The Aggies will host Presbyterian in a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m., on Sunday at the Lady Aggie Softball Complex.
