MACON, Ga. – North Carolina A&T lost two games Saturday at the Mercer Softball Tournament played at Sikes Field.
The Aggies lost their first game of the day to Loyola Chicago 8-0 before losing to Indiana 7-1 later in the day.
N.C. A&T was held to two hits against the Ramblers. Sophomore Hailee Cutts took the loss in the circle. Freshman Nikki Varela and senior Zadaisha Waddell each had a hit for the Aggies.
Keenan Dolezal improved to 6-0 on the season in the circle with the shutout win.
In the second game of the day for N.C. A&T, the Aggies scored their first run of the season after four games. After the Hoosiers took a 2-0 lead as Annika Baez scored on a throwing error in the second inning. In the Aggies second, they got one of those runs back.
With one out, junior Alyssa Green singled up the middle and moved into scoring position by stealing second. Cutts struck out to put the Hoosiers on the brink of getting out of the inning, but freshman Vivica Boyd salvaged the inning with an RBI double to score Green.
Indiana broke the game open in the sixth inning with four runs. Bella Norton homered in the inning and Taylor Lambert had a two-run RBI double to give the Hoosiers a 7-1 advantage. Senior Mohagony Headen (0-2) got the loss in the circle after going six innings and giving up three earned runs with a strikeout.
Emily Goodin (3-0) got the win after pitching five innings of scoreless relief. She recorded 11 strikeouts.
