GREENSBORO – The North Carolina A&T women’s tennis team dropped an 6-1 decision to Pfeifer University earlier Sunday afternoon in Misenheimer, N.C.

Freshman Saundra Smith secured the Aggies (0-3) only win in singles play. Smith defeated Amanda Long 6-2, 2-2 in the No. 4 position. Sophomore Jayla Scott played a tough match against Hannah Watson in the No. 2 spot but fell short 7-6, 6-2. Senior Kimberly Stalling put up a good effort against Mylene Petitpas before falling 6-3, 6-4.

Melinda Athay took down freshman Lexxus Betts, 6-2, 6-1 in the fifth  spot and junior Kenya Colbert was swept 6-0, 6-0 by Olivia Nelms in the top singles match. Pfeifer won the final singles match by default.

Colbert and Scott went up against Taylor Lindsay and Valeria Mendoza in the top doubles match but were faced with an 8-2 setback. Smith and Stalling paired together in the final doubles match but lost 8-1 to Nelms and Watson as Pfeifer also secured the last doubles win by default.

The Aggies will host Norfolk State on Friday, Feb. 7 at the Simkins Indoor Tennis Center beginning at 2:30 p.m.
