Gardner-Webb Defeats Aggies

GREENSBORO – The North Carolina A&T women’s tennis team was swept by Gardner-Webb 7-0 Saturday afternoon in Boiling Springs, N.C.

The Aggies (0-2) fell in all three doubles matches and six singles matches.

In the No. 1 doubles pairing, sophomore Jayla Scott and junior Kenya Colbert went the distance with GWU’s Jenny Lunde and Teodora Stanciu but came up short 8-4.

Senior Kimberly Stalling and freshman Saundra Smith went up against Catherine White and Mary Walker in the No. 2 doubles match where the Runnin’ Bulldogs claimed an 8-2 decision. Gardner-Webb won the final doubles match by default.

In singles play, Yasmin Doost defeated Colbert 6-3, 6-0 in the top position. Scott faced Lunde in the No. 2 spot but fell 6-1, 6-1. In the No. 3 position, Ronia Hutterli defeated Stalling 6-2, 3-0. Smith and freshman Lexxus Betts were swept 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 4 and No. 5 spots respectively by Valeriia Popko and Rokia Sacko. White won the final singles match by default.

The Aggies will visit Pfeifer University on Sunday, Feb. 2 for a match beginning at 11 a.m.

No. 2 White/Walker Mixon (GWU) def. Stalling/Smith (NCAT) 8-2

No. 3 Sacko/Hutterli (GWU) won by default

No. 1 Doost (GWU) def. Colbert (NCAT) 6-3, 6-0

No. 2 Lunde (GWU) def. Scott (NCAT) 6-1, 6-1

No. 3 Hutterli (GWU) def. Stalling (NCAT) 6-2, 3-0, ret.

No. 4 Popko (GWU) def. Smith (NCAT) 6-0, 6-0

No. 5 Sacko (GWU) def. Betts (NCAT) 6-0, 6-0

No. 6 White (GWU) won by default
