GREENSBORO – The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference released its preseason all-conference team and volleyball predictions.  The North Carolina A&T volleyball team, who has not qualified for the MEAC tournament since 2007, was predicted to finish fifth in the MEAC Southern Division.

Despite libero Ashley Johnson (5-6, SO, Ewa Beach, Hawaii) being named first-team All-MEAC in 2012, the Aggies did not have anyone selected to the conference’s preseason team.  The Aggies are coming off of a 3-29 season, where they finished 3-7 in the conference.  It was their sixth straight losing season, but they did end the 2012 season on a two-match winning streak, including a win over 2013 preseason Player of the Year Desire Waller and S.C. State Bulldogs.

The Aggies return 10 players for the 2013 season. Along with Johnson (461 digs, 3.91 per game), the Aggies also return sophomore hitter Brooke Stamnes  (289 kills, 2.45 per game), the team’s 2012 leader in kills and sophomore middle blocker Te’Borah Hawkins-Hollingsworth, the returning leader in hitting percentage (.151).

A&T opens the season on Aug. 30 in the La Quinta Inn and Suites Highlander Invitational at Radford University.  The Aggies’ opening match is against Radford at 6:30 p.m.
