WILMINGTON – Sophomore Aleena McDaniel led the Aggies with 12 kills but the North Carolina A&T volleyball team faced a 3-0 setback (25-15, 19, 16)  to UNC Asheville at the Hilton Garden Inn Mayfaire UNCW Volleyball Classic in Hanover Hall on Saturday evening.

The Aggies fell to 1-9 overall and the Bulldogs improved to 7-4. The Aggies went 0-3 during the two-day tournament.

“The scores do not show how well we played,” head coach Hal Clifton said. “Right now we are making too many errors. We had lots of positive moments but they just weren’t sustained.”

McDaniel was also named to the all-tournament team following Saturday’s match. McDaniel has been named to an all-tournament team three times this season. Her 12 kills against the Bulldogs notched her fourth match this season in double-digit kills. McDaniel also recorded eight digs. During the tournament, McDaniel tallied 23 kills and 18 digs.

Jillian Nobles also added eight kills for the Aggies. Maris Kellar led the team in digs (15) and Ashley Johnson finished with 11.

The Aggies will host Charlotte on Tuesday, Sept. 17 for a non-conference match beginning at 7 p.m. in Moore Gymnasium.
