GREENSBORO, N.C. – The North Carolina A&T volleyball team fell 3-0 (25-20, 15, 18) to Charlotte Tuesday evening in a non-conference match at Moore Gymnasium.

Brooke Stamnes led the Aggies (1-10) with 10 kills.

“We played a pretty good match,” head coach Hal Clifton said. “The score doesn’t show it, but we played them very tight and tough. We had some good attacking from our outside hitters tonight so that was nice to see. We weren’t as efficient in the middle as I’d like us to be. Charlotte hit better than we did and we struggled in the second and third sets.”

The Aggies came out in the first set with a lot of energy and took a 7-6 edge over the 49ers after a kill from Stamnes. Charlotte answered and tied the game at 7, but it was Stamnes again who landed down a kill to push the Aggies to an 8-7 advantage. However, Charlotte went on an 8-0 run to take a 15-8 lead. A&T got within four after scoring three straight points to slice the 49ers lead to 15-11. The teams exchanged points and a kill from Maris Kellar and Aleena McDaniel got the Aggies within one as they trailed 21-20. Charlotte finished the set on a 4-0 rally to take the win.

A&T took a 3-0 lead over Charlotte to start the second set but the 49ers put together several rallies in the game to control the set.

The Aggies trailed 14-9 in the third set but a pair of 49er errors and kills from McDaniel cut Charlotte’s lead to 14-13. Charlotte again put together impressive runs to finish out the set.

Stamnes recorded her fourth game of the season in double-figure kills. She also added seven digs. MCDaniel finished with nine kills and tossed in six digs. Liz Martino finished with 20 assists and Ashley Johnson tallied 15 digs.

Amanda Videmsek led all players with 12 followed by Taylor Cannon who added 10 kills and one attack error on 14 attack attempts to finishewith a game-high .643 hitting percentage.

A&T will visit Appalachian State on Wednesday, Sept. 18 for a non-conference match beginning at 7 p.m.

“We put together a lot of good rallies but unfortunately we haven’t won a lot of those rallies,” Clifton said. “Our outside hitters worked hard in practice yesterday to develop more shots and we saw that today. It helped them score today and our middles did a good job of going one-on-one with their middles which was nice to see. We have to get back out there tomorrow. Appalachian is a good team and our schedule is stacked with a lot of good teams which will make us conference ready.”
