UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The North Carolina A&T men's and women's indoor track and field teams wrapped up their weekend at the 2013 Penn State National Invitational at Horace Ashenfelter III Indoor Track with some encouraging results.

Redshirt senior sprinter Darryl Williams came in second in the 60 meters among the best in the world, and Christian Harrison won the 1000 meters on Saturday as he crossed the finish line in 2:28.18. A&T's two 4x400 meter relay teams also excelled. The women finished third in 3:45.13, while the finished second in 3:15.90.

"I'm very happy with the team's overall performance," said Duane Ross, the Aggies director of track and field programs. "We faced some tough competition this weekend, and they competed very well."

Harrison, who is coming off of a strong cross country season in which he competed in the NCAA regionals, finished seventh in the 1000 meters last week at the Virginia Tech Invitational at 2:29.30. This week, he was able to drop his time by more than a full second. His closest opponent this week, Syracuse's Joshua Hayman was 18/100ths of a second behind Harrison.

"Christian continues to get better each and every week," said Ross. "We're expecting something big from him during the indoor and outdoor seasons."

Williams returned to the track on Saturday with a sixth-place finish in the 200 meters. A day after running a 6.76 in the 60 meters, Williams completed his 200 meter race in 22.23. Teammate Torrance Womack competed in the 200 meters invitational, and came away with the fourth fastest time in the MEAC this season, a 21.51.

Paris Simmons had a top-5 finish as he clocked in with a 1:54.02 finish in the 800 meters. He now has the eighth fastest time in the MEAC.

For the A&T women, Jessica Farr tied for sixth in the 400 meters. Her time of 56.96 fell short of her time at Virginia Tech last week when ran the 400 in 56.87.

The Aggies will be in two places at one time for the second time this season next week. A few Aggies will head 25 miles west to compete in the Hilton Garden Invitational in Winston-Salem, while other athletes will head north for the New Balance Collegiate Invitational in New York.
