Aggies Volleyball Releases 2013 Schedule
GREENSBORO – The North Carolina A&T volleyball team will play 13 home matches in Moore Gymnasium in 2013 as the program released its 2013 fall slate on Thursday.
The Aggies will compete in four tournaments and will open the season in a tournament hosted by Radford University, Aug. 30-31. A&T will also co-host the Ashford Suites Aggie-Spartan Invitational with UNC Greensboro for the second straight season, playing the three-match tournament from Sept. 6-7.
In addition to welcoming five MEAC schools to the newly renovated Moore Gymnasium, the Aggies will host top schools from around the state such as UNC Charlotte (Sept. 17), Campbell (Sept. 24), Elon (Oct. 8) and Gardner-Webb (Oct. 15).
“This year is exciting because we have teams we haven't seen before in Charlotte and East Carolina and they will be visiting Moore Gym,” said A&T head coach Hal Clifton. “We have a really exciting home-match schedule that I think our fans will really enjoy. We have three road tournaments that will challenge us in many different facets.”
The Aggies have 14 away matches with challenging matches at UNC Wilmington, Davidson, High Point, Wofford, Appalachian State and UNC Asheville.
The Aggies will open MEAC competition on Sept. 27 at N.C. Central. The return match against the rival Eagles will be on Oct. 25 at 7 p.m. The longest string of home matches occurs Oct. 8-15 when the Aggies play four straight at Moore. Two conference foes will enter the gym during that time – S.C. State (Oct. 11) and Savannah State (Oct. 13). The final three home matches of the season are scheduled from Nov. 1-5, and A&T will host Senior Day on Nov. 3 against Bethune-Cookman at 1 p.m. The season will end on the road with matches at Savannah State on Nov. 8 and at S.C. State on Nov. 10.
“Although our conference record didn't show it, we were really competitive and our non-conference schedule prepared our freshmen for that competition,” Clifton said. “We finished on a two-match win streak and I felt like we were playing really good volleyball.”
The Aggies will be returning rising senior Chelsea Fox, rising junior Ian Thompson and rising sophomores Jasmine Jones, Brooke Stamnes, Te’Borah Hawkins-Hollingsworth, Maris Kellar, Aleena McDaniel and Ashley Johnson this fall, and have added three talented freshmen.
