SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic – Sophomore Bruce Beckford had 16 points and 16 rebounds to help the North Carolina A&T men’s basketball team defeat Invivienda Club Team 64-50 Tuesday night.
The win improves the Aggies to 1-1 during their foreign trip to the Dominican Republic for five days and three exhibition games.
“We were much more aggressive tonight,” said A&T head coach Cy Alexander. “I thought this team we played tonight was better than the one we played last night. They were bigger and they banged us a little. But tonight you could see the difference in our effort.”
The Aggies lost their first exhibition game on Monday night by nine points. They trailed at the half 31-28 before rebounding turned the game in their favor. The Aggies went on a 13-4 to take a 46-37 lead. Junior Waylan Siverand and Richaud Pack then gave the Aggies a big lift off the bench in the fourth quarter.
Siverand scored the Aggies first four points of the fourth quarter and Pack followed with a three to give the Aggies a 57-41 lead with 6:31 remaining in the game. Siverand scored all six of his points in the second half and added nine rebounds to his totals. Pack added 17 points on 3-for-5 shooting from 3-point range.
The Aggies will play their final exhibition game Wednesday afternoon at 5. Before the game, they will visit an orphanage.
