GREENSBORO-The North Carolina A&T women's basketball team was picked to finish fifth and had three players named to the MEAC Preseason Team, according to the results of a preseason conference poll released Thursday.

Senior forward JaQuayla Berry, who became the 12th player in program history to reach 1,000 career points last season, was named preseason first team, while redshirt junior guard Amber Calvin and junior Tiffanie Adair were both named preseason second team.

The Aggies were picked to finish fifth in the MEAC behind Howard, three-time defending MEAC champion Hampton, Coppin State and Florida A&M.  A&T had two first-place finish votes in the preseason poll conducted by conference coaches and sports information directors.

Berry enters her senior season with 1,041 career points, after averaging 14.3 points and 7.4 rebounds per game last season.  Berry posted eight double-doubles and led the team in scoring, rebounding and  steals in 2011-12.  Berry was named second-team All-MEAC for her efforts.

Calvin tallied 117 assists last season, which is the sixth most by an Aggie in a single season.  She was named the 2012 A&T Female Athlete of the Year after averaging  13.6 points, 3.9 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game in a great comeback season.

Adair won six MEAC Rookie of the Week awards last season and was named to the MEAC All-Rookie Team. She garnered A&T Freshman Female Athlete of the Year honors after the season.   Adair averaged 12.9 points and 8.3 rebounds in conference play and shot 58 percent from the floor.

The Aggies return 12 players and five starters from last year's team that finished 15-16 overall and 9-7 (5th Place) in the MEAC.  The Aggies are looking to earn their seventh regular-season crown and third MEAC Tournament Championship this season under first-year head coach Tarrell Robinson.

The Aggies begin the 2012-13 regular season on Friday, Nov. 9 as they take on the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, Neb.  The Aggies first home game is on Nov. 16 at 6 p.m. against Iona.
