GREENSBORO – The North Carolina A&T women’s basketball team, a program that has put together four 20-win seasons in six years, released its 2013-14 schedule, which includes the Preseason WNIT, 13 home games and one home exhibition game.
The Aggies, who were 22-10 overall and 13-3 in the MEAC during the 2012-13 season, open their new season in Hamden, Conn., against Quinnipiac on Friday Nov. 8 at 5 p.m. It will be their first Preseason WNIT appearance in four years. The Preseason WNIT features a three-game guarantee format. The event opens Nov. 8 with first-round games. Second-round games will be played Nov. 10-11; semifinals will be Nov. 14; and the championship is set for Sunday, Nov. 17. Teams that lose in the first two rounds will play consolation games on the second weekend, Nov. 15-16.
The championship game will be nationally televised LIVE in HD on CBS Sports Network at 4pm ET on Sunday, Nov. 17.
“Our 2013-2014 schedule consists of three things that we feel will be important for our players and this program this year,” said A&T head coach Tarrell Robinson, who produced more wins, 22, than any other first-year coach in program history. “The first thing is a national preseason tournament that consists of teams with postseason experience to set the tone for us. Second, is in-state competition against competitive mid-major programs in our state, which can and will impact in-state recruiting. Lastly, we have competitive road games that will prepare us for the battles we will have on the road during conference play. My staff and I feel that this schedule will prepare us for our goal of winning a championship and winning in the postseason.”
After they have completed Preseason WNIT action, the Aggies will play four straight home games – Nov. 21, Nov. 24, Dec. 4 and Dec. 7 – against Davidson, Richmond, Appalachian State and Virginia University of Lynchburg. The Aggies non-conference road games include games at UNC Asheville (Dec. 17), at George Washington (Dec. 21), at Elon (Dec. 31) and William & Mary (Jan. 3). Before starting conference play, A&T will play Campbell at Corbett Sports Center on Monday, Jan. 6 at 6 p.m.
A&T’s conference schedule includes the return Hampton, the four-time defending MEAC champions. The Pirates and the Aggies finished 1,2 in the conference last season, but have not played each other since Jan. 17, 2011, a 71-36 Hampton win in Hampton, Va. The two teams will play at Hampton on Thursday, March 6 at 6 p.m.
