Aggies Overview: The North Carolina A&T women’s basketball team will have the opportunity to respond to ending its seven-game winning streak when it visits Elon on Tuesday to wrap-up its 2013 schedule. The Aggies hadn’t lost a game since their season-opener on Nov. 8 against Quinnipiac. A&T faced a tough George Washington team in its last game where it scored a season-low 54 points. The Aggies struggled offensively and were 19-for-58 (32.8 percent) from the field. A&T did receive a solid effort from redshirt-junior Debbie Smith in a breakout game where she led the Aggies with a season-high 21 points off the bench and added six rebounds. She was the only Aggie that scored in double-figures but they will have to get solid production from the rest of the team in order to get past Elon with a win.
Elon Overview: The Phoenix won two straight games before dropping an 89-59 decision at West Virginia on Sunday. Elon’s only two losses at Alumni Gym have been at the hands of East Carolina and Chattanooga. The Phoenix is led by guards Kelsey Harris (12.6 points per game), Zora Stephenson (12.3 ppg), and forward Jenifer Rhodes (10.0 ppg). Harris also spreads the ball for Elon with 4.2 assists per game and leads the team in steals (22). Stephenson is lethal from behind 3-point range as she heads her team with 32 3-pointers which also tops the SoCon. Defensively Sam Coffer leads the Phoenix with 6.6 rebounds per game and 18 blocks.
Potential Star: Smith has posted consistent numbers in her last two games. Before scoring 21 points against George Washington she added 14 in a win over UNC Asheville. Smith strengthens the Aggies lineup as a reliable scorer as well as a steady defensive player.
