Aggies Overview:  The North Carolina A&T women’s basketball squad looks to rebound after dropping its first home game of the season in a loss to Coppin State on Monday when it visits Princess Anne, Md. The Aggies have been successful at W.P. Hytche Center and hasn’t lost a game against UMES since the 2006-07 season. King is averaging a team-leading 13.0 points per game and has led A&T in scoring in seven games. In the Aggies’ last game she recorded her seventh career double-double with 22 points and 10 rebounds. She also leads her team in steals (57), rebounds (6.3) and shooting (47.1 percent). A&T owns the top scoring defense offense in the MEAC, holding its opponents to an average of 55.1 points per game. The Aggies are also the best shooting team in the conference (40.8 percent) while the Hawks are last in the league (32.1 percent).

Hawks Overview: UMES ended a 10-game losing streak with a 68-61 non-conference home win over NJIT on Wednesday. The Hawks are winless in the league and will be looking for its first MEAC win of the season against the Aggies. Jessica Long (15.5 ppg) and Shawnee Sweeney (10.4 ppg) are the Hawks’ top scorers. UMES’ roster is loaded with plenty of players who contribute defensively. The Hawks are second in the MEAC in rebounding, grabbing 46.1 a game. Shanyce Stewart (9.1), Alexis Udoji (8.0), Ashleigh Claybrooks (6.9) are the Hawks’ top rebounders. Udoji also leads UMES in blocks (28), while Sweeney has been a threat behind the arc with 48 3-pointers.

Potential Star: King has been the Aggies’ leader all season. However Saturday’s game could feature several standout performances for the Aggies as they try to capture its fifth MEAC win of the season.

News & Notes:

*The Aggies are 37-22 all-time against the Hawks.

*A&T is 5-3 on the road this season.

*In their last meeting, A&T defeated UMES 67-55 at the W.P. Hytche Center. The Aggies placed three players in double figures in scoring.

From the Coach: “Maryland Eastern Shore just ended a losing skid with a good win at home against NJIT. We expect them to be confident and ready to defend their home court again on Saturday. We have to make sure we play with a lot of intensity and discipline to come out with a victory.” Head coach Tarrell Robinson said about UMES
