Aggies Overview: The North Carolina A&T women’s basketball team is on a four-game winning streak with the hopes of extending it to five when it visits Savannah State on Saturday in their first meeting of the season. In their last three games, the Aggies have been led in scoring by three different players in King, Bursey, and Debbie Smith. Since starting the win streak on Feb. 1 against UMES, A&T has placed at least three players in double figure scoring in each game. The Aggies haven’t had a hard time winning away from Corbett Sports Center with a 7-3 road record. A&T hasn’t dropped a road game since Jan. 13 when it fell 55-51 at Florida A&M. A&T’s opponents have averaged 55.2 points per game which is 12th in the nation in scoring defense.

Tigers Overview: Savannah State is fourth in the MEAC standings behind A&T. Offensively Saturday’s matchup should be a close one as both teams are averaging 66 points per game. The Tigers are also behind A&T (41.6 percent) in field goal percentage in the league and are shooting 40.3 percent from the field. Senior guard Ezinne Kalu leads SSU with 16.2 ppg. Senior guard Jazmine Kirkland is the team’s best shooter (52.0 percent) and is second in scoring (9.8).Freshman Tiyonda Davis has lead the Tigers in rebounding (7.4) along with blocks (39). SSU has recorded 238 steals this season and held its opponents to only 88. The Tigers are 8-1 at home with its only loss to Hampton (70-46) on Jan. 25.

Potential Star: King leads the Aggies in scoring on the road, averaging 12.8 points per game.

News & Notes:

*The Aggies are 6-1 all-time against the Tigers.

*A&T’s only loss to Savannah State was in the 2001-02 season when it fell 55-45 in Savannah.

*In their previous meeting (3/4/13) A&T defeated SSU 58-47 at Corbett Sports Center. King recorded a double-double (13 points, 10 rebounds) and Eboni Ross finished with 11 points.

From the Coach: "Savannah State is a pretty good team. We’ll watch film to see how we need to attack them.  We know that facing S.C. State on Monday will also be a good game. The Battle of the Carolinas is always a good rivalry for us but we’ll be prepared and ready,” Head coach Tarrell Robinson said about A&T’s upcoming games.
