GREENSBORO – North Carolina A&T head women’s basketball coach Tarrell Robinson announced the promotion of graduate assistant Jalessa Sams to director of basketball operations Thursday afternoon.

Sams, who was a basketball player for the Aggies (2007-11), served as a graduate assistant during the last two seasons.

“It gives me great pleasure to promote Jalessa to director of basketball operations after serving as our graduate assistant for the last two years,” said Robinson. “She has proved to be a valuable asset to this program. I look forward to watching her grow in this progression.”

During her collegiate career, Sams was a member of arguably one of the best teams in program history. During her tenure, the Aggies won three straight MEAC regular-season titles (2007-10) and were the 2009 conference tournament champions. A&T also made an appearance in the 2009 NCAA tournament and advanced to the third round of the WNIT the following season. Sams, a two-time All-MEAC selection, still remains fifth in rebounds (692) on the A&T all-time career records list and 12th in scoring (1,172).

Sams graduated from A&T in 2011with a bachelor’s degree in sports science and will complete her master’s degree in education in December.
