Aggies Overview: The North Carolina A&T women’s basketball team looks to even the score with Florida A&M on Saturday. FAMU is one of the two teams that has handed A&T a loss in the conference. Since their 55-51 setback to the Rattlers in January, the Aggies have won five of six. A&T has had no problem winning games on the road this season, but it has played its best games inside Corbett Sports Center where they have just one loss. FAMU (68.2) and A&T (65.9) are second and third in the league respectively in scoring offense, but the Aggies unflinching defense still tops the MEAC, limiting its opponents to an average of 55.2 points per game. A&T’s shooting has become more consistent as its shooting a league-high 41.1 percent behind the efforts of Ross who is shooting 50.9 percent and King (47.7 percent). In their last three games, King has averaged 21.0 points per game, followed by Ross (11.0) and Bursey (10.0).
Rattlers Overview: FAMU is on a three-game winning streak after taking down Howard, S.C. State, and Savannah State in Tallahassee, Fla. The Rattlers are currently seventh in league standings. FAMU is stocked with several weapons as it leads the conference in 3-point field goal percentage (31.2) and free throw percentage (72.5) and are second in steals (10.0) and assists (13.6). Jasmine Grice leads the MEAC in scoring, turning in an average of 23.0 points a game, along with steals (3.4). Grice has led the Rattlers in scoring 19 times and has help from Tameka Rubin (12.3) and Kimberly Sparkman (10.2). FAMU hasn’t been so fortunate on the road this season, posting a 2-8 record.
Potential Star: King has been hot for the Aggies on both sides of the ball. Whether it’s driving to the basket for a layup, shooting a 3-pointer, leading the team in rebounding, or grabbing a few steals, she always finds a way to impact the game for A&T.
