LAUREL, Md.-The North Carolina A&T women's bowling team posted a 5-0 record and finished third during the first day of the Frederick Underwood Lady Bulldogs Classic at AMF Lanes.

The performance put A&T (21-12) behind National Tenpin Coaches Association No. 4 Sam Houston State and No. 19 Bethune-Cookman in total pins.

"It took a while for the girls to find the groove, but as the day continued they started to return to the form they developed at the end of last semester," said head coach James Williams.   "It was a nice start to the tournament. "

The Aggies defeated N.C Central  684-608 to start the day, and then bested host school Bowie State  745-684.  The Aggies then overcame Howard 728-717 to move into fifth place in total pinfall. The Aggies pulled out a 713-671 win over Morgan State and dominated Salem International 824-608 to close out the day.

A&T's win over Morgan State marked yet another come-from-behind victory this season. Williams said the win showed that his team retained the mettle and fight they developed in the fall. Down by 56 pins after the first two games to Morgan State, Williams had one question for his team-will you give up or will you fight?

"They chose to fight and that's what they did," he said. "They battled back and not only made up the 56 they were down, but took the lead by 19, eventually closing the door to end the match."

The Aggies will continue to compete in the Classic on Saturday and Sunday.
