Aggies Finish 13th At 300 Music City Classic

SMYRNA, Tenn. – Seventeenth-ranked North Carolina A&T finished 13th out of 29 teams at the 300 Music City Classic on Sunday hosted by Vanderbilt.

The Aggies (75-33 overall) went 7-8 during the three-day tournament. On Saturday, A&T went 2-4 in six traditional team games.  The Aggies defeated top-ranked Arkansas State, 981-947 and were led by sophomores Najah Owens and Emily Strombeck who both tossed a 216. A&T also picked up a 1005-940 win over No. 19 Alabama State where Owens pinned a game-high 225.

A&T dropped games to No. 2 Nebraska (1045-921), No. 6 Stephen F. Austin (990-895), No. 9 Wisconsin-Whitewater (1076-903) and Tulane (948-889).

Freshman MacKenzie Robinson tabbed the highest average for the Aggies with 196.2 and finished 29th out of 199 bowlers. Robinson rolled a 224 against Nebraska and a 214 against Alabama State.  Owens was 35th with a 193.3 average, followed by Kristin Shinn in 36th (192.7).

On Sunday, A&T entered bracket play as the 13th seed with a total pinfall of 9,976. The Aggies defeated 14th-seeded Saint Francis (Pa.) 4-1 in the opening match. A&T fell 4-1 to 12th-seeded Kutztown and faced Saint Francis again in the final match where it seized a 4-0 win to close out the tournament.

The Aggies will compete at the MEAC Championship at AMF Lanes beginning on Friday, March 21 in Chesapeake, Va.
