GREENSBORO – A&T bowler and MEAC Rookie of the Year Emily Strombeck recently finished ninth in the North Pointe Junior Gold Championships in Detroit this past week. The tournament annually features the top male and female youth bowlers in the country. Participants also have an opportunity to earn a spot on the USA Junior Team.  Strombeck participated in the Under-20 Girls Division.

She made it to the Final 16 of the tournament by playing 15 qualifying games over three days. Each day, she was presented with a difficult challenge because the lanes had a World Tenpin Bowling Association oil pattern varying between 33-43 feet in length.

After her first 15 games, she was one of 82 remaining bowlers who bowled an additional five games to dwindle the number down to 64 remaining bowlers. After an additional five games, Strombeck reached the Final 16, which is a double elimination bracket. Strombeck’s ninth-place finish was a nice momentum builder for an A&T bowling program looking to return to MEAC prominence.
