A&T Bowling Earns Second Seed After Day One

CHESAPEAKE, Va. – The North Carolina A&T bowling team posted a 3-2 record in five traditional team games on Friday to earn the second seed heading into Saturday’s best-of-seven baker matches at AMF Lanes.

No. 13 A&T (75-32 overall) finished with a pinfall of 4,636 to earn the second seed behind the defending MEAC champions, No. 3 UMES who went 5-0 on Friday and tabbed a pinfall of 4,834 to claim the top seed.  

The Aggies were led by 2014 MEAC Bowler of the Year, sophomore Emily Strombeck who pinned a 194 average. A&T defeated Morgan State 992-793 where freshman MacKenzie Robinson finished with a game-high 233. In its second match A&T defeated Delaware State, 912-841 behind Robinson’s 202 and Strombeck’s 200.

UMES and A&T battled in the third match but the Hawks got away with a 963-960 win. Strombeck led the Aggies with a 233. The Aggies responded with an 888-727 victory over Coppin State but fell 888-884 to Bethune-Cookman where sophomore Najah Owens posted a 201.

Robinson pinned the eighth-highest average (192.75) behind Strombeck while Owens finished in the top 10 with a 188.60 average out of 56 bowlers.

The Aggies will meet seventh seed, Morgan State in Saturday’s first match beginning at 8:30 a.m.
