A&T Picked Second in MEAC Preseason Poll
GREENSBORO – The North Carolina A&T State University bowling team was picked to finish second in the Southern Division of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) preseason poll and Emily Strombeck was named to the All-MEAC preseason team, the conference announced on Wednesday.
The preseason poll and all-conference team selections are voted by the MEAC’s head bowling coaches and sports information directors.
The Aggies received 159 points in the poll behind Norfolk State who garnered 15 of the 19 first-place votes in this season’s preseason poll with a total of 209 points.
In her rookie campaign, Strombeck averaged a 193.0 and rolled a season-high 237 at the Capital Classic. She made an immediate impact for the Aggies and helped them to a 49-48 record, a 12-12 mark in the MEAC, and their first winning season since 2008-09. The Durham, N.C., native was also selected as the A&T Female Rookie of the Year, MEAC Rookie of the Year, MEAC all-tournament team, and second-team All-MEAC.
Bethune-Cookman was predicted to finish third with 154 points. Florida A&M (150) and North Carolina Central (126) completed the Southern Division predictions with fourth and fifth place finishes, respectively.
Three-time bowling national champion Maryland Eastern Shore received 14 of the 19 first-place votes in the Northern Division.
