DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.  – The North Carolina A&T bowling team tabbed another terrific outing on the lanes to wrap up the weekend when it went 6-2 in the second MEAC southern division meet, hosted by Bethune-Cookman.

The Aggies (29-10 overall) entered the meet in a three-way tie for first place in the southern division but are now second (11-5) behind Norfolk State (13-3) who went 8-0 at the conference meet over the weekend.

“The weekend was good,” head coach James Williams said. “There were a lot of positives. We knew the road in the south had to go through Norfolk, so we need to continue to improve and get ready for the divisional in March.”

A&T was led by sophomore Emily Strombeck in traditional team games who finished with the highest average of 208.5 out of 26 bowlers. Strombeck was phenomenal for the Aggies as she rolled four 200-plus games to help them post a 3-1 mark on Saturday. Freshman Mackenzie Robinson finished third overall with an average of 199.75, which included three 200-plus games.

The Aggies started off by taking down Bethune-Cookman 948-838 which was headed by Strombeck with a 205. A trio of Aggies posted 200-plus games in their 916-827 victory over N.C. Central. Strombeck and Robinson each recorded a 215 and freshman Kristin Shinn tallied a 205. A&T put up a good fight against Norfolk State but fell 914-900 where sophomore Brianna Jackson rolled a season-best 215 to lead the Aggies. A&T finished the day by defeating Florida A&M 1007-897. Robinson pinned a career-high 229 in the win, while sophomore Najah Owens (217), Shinn (215) and Strombeck (211) performed well for the Aggies.

On Sunday A&T went 3-1 in four baker games and finished with a pinfall of 2956. A&T had its best performance against Florida A&M where it defeated the Rattlers 817-674 and averaged 204.25. The Aggies knocked off BCU 777-765 and finished with a high game of 213. A&T took down NCCU 690-662 before falling to NSU 838-672.

A&T will return back to competition on January 24 when it participates in the Kutztown Invitational.
