GREENSBORO – The North Carolina A&T won three games on the first day of the MEAC Meet hosted by N.C. Central on Saturday afternoon.
No. 17 A&T (63-21 overall) posted a 3-1 record in four traditional team games during Saturday’s competition. The Aggies dropped its first match to No. 18 Norfolk State 1018-810. A&T regrouped and went on to defeat NCCU 1003-752, Bethune-Cookman 924-827, and Florida A&M 859-852. The Aggies are 14-6 in conference play following Saturday’s matches.
“I’m glad we were able to pull things together after the first match,” head coach James Williams said.
Sophomore Najah Owens led the Aggies with a 236 against the Eagles. Freshman Kristin Shinn (210) and sophomore Emily Strombeck (206) also performed well against NCCU. Against the Wildcats, A&T was led by freshman MacKenzie Robinson who pinned a game-high 226 and a team-high 192 in the win over the Rattlers.
Shinn was the Aggies’ top performer and recorded an average of 189.25 in four games followed by Robinson (188.25).
Sunday’s competition will start at 9 a.m. with baker matches.
