GREENSBORO – The North Carolina A&T baseball team dropped a 1-0 decision to Bryant University on Tuesday evening at War Memorial Stadium in a non-conference game.

The Aggies (6-8) and Bryant (4-6) both finished with six hits but it was the Bulldogs who were able to capitalize on their hits in the fifth inning.

With one out in the top of the fifth, John Mullen singled to left field and stole second to move into scoring position. It was Tom Gavitt’s RBI double to left field that gave the Bulldogs their sole run.

In the bottom of the fifth it appeared as though the Aggies would put a run on the board after Brandon Mitchell led off with a single to right field. Mitchell advanced to second off a balk by pitcher Vaughn Hayward. Bo McMillan reached first after he was hit by a pitch, but Mitchell was thrown out at third after he was caught stealing. Timothy Ravare’s groundout allowed McMillian to move to third with two outs, but a groundout on the next play ended the inning.

With two outs in the sixth inning, Luke Tendler recorded a hit to center field followed by a single to right center from Cameron Jergens to put Tendler on third. However the rally was short lived as A&T’s offense was unable to drive in any runs.

Tendler and Brandon Wilkerson each finished with a pair of hits. DarAmani Swift (1-1) pitched a complete game and finished with three strikeouts.

Hayward picked up his first win on the mound for Bryant and tallied a game-high five strikeouts in six innings.

A&T will face Bryant again tomorrow at 4 p.m. in a single game.
