EGG HARBOR, N.J. (March 3, 2019) – The North Carolina A&T bowling team finished third during the Hawk Flight Invitational hosted by Monmouth University. The Aggies are 66-40 on the season.


“This is one of our very best performances on a Sunday," said N.C. A&T coach Kim Terrell-Kearney. “We beat some good teams today. I'm very proud."


N.C. A&T had a strong finish during the Hawk Flight Invite winning their last six matchups of the event. Their winning streak started during Saturday’s traditional format in the third match of the day. They downed Felician 938-893 before moving on to defeated MEAC foe Norfolk State 885-654. A&T finished out the day with a huge win over second-ranked Vanderbilt 999-906.


On Sunday, the Aggies continued their onslaught as they begin bracket play in the best of seven Bakers format. They started off with another MEAC foe in sixth-ranked Maryland Eastern Shore which they defeated in four games. They then downed eighth-ranked Fairleigh Dickenson in seven and 11th-ranked St. Francis in seven games as well.


Junior Mia Pope led the Aggies in the individual standings with a total pinfall of 988 and a 197.6 average for 12th place. Sophomore Ana Olaya was the only other Aggie to break into the top-25 with a total pinfall of 919 and a 183.8 average to finish 25th. 


N.C. A&T started the tournament off with a loss to fifth-ranked Sam Houston State 956-894. The Aggies rebounded with wins over LIU Post 882-877 and a 919-591 over Bloomfield. They then suffered their second loss of the tournament to Caldwell, 955-933. N.C. A&T finished out the day with a 1,035-967 win over Wilmington.


Day 2 started with a win over St. Francis 948-880. The Aggies then suffered their third and final loss of the tournament as they were defeated by Youngstown 933-915. 


The Aggies will get a weekend off before heading to the Vanderbilt Music City Classic, March 15-17.
