ELON - The schedule says the 2011 North Carolina A&T cross country season is underway. As long as the calendar says September, however, the Aggies consider themselves in training mode. The season/training session continued on Saturday for N.C. A&T as the men's and women's teams competed in the Elon Invitational.

The men finished in seventh place in the 8k run with 211 points, while the women finished eighth with a total of 216 points during the 5k run. Paris Simmons had the best time for the men as he finished in 28:10, 20 seconds ahead of freshman Christian Harrison.

Junior Janessa Benn had the best finish for the women. She completed the course in 20:33, while teammate Kristin Rush recorded a time of 21:09.

"We're looking to run our best times in late October," said N.C. A&T associate head coach James Daniels. Late October happens to be the time of the season when the MEAC Cross Country Championships occur.

"We are pleased with where we are at this moment," Daniels continued. "We are still trying to work ourselves into the kind of conditioning that will help us be successful with MEAC meet arrives."

The Aggies will continue to work on through their training next week when they participate in the Greensboro XC Invitational at Hagan Stone Park at 9 a.m.

"We are capable of doing well next week," said Daniels. "Our confidence in our conditioning needs to get better so we can be more aggressive."
