GREENSBORO -- The men and women’s cross country team will travel to Cary, N.C. Saturday to compete in the annual Robert Shumake HBCU Cross Country Challenge at Wake Med Soccer Park in Cary, N.C.
Both teams will compete in the standard 5k and 8k races. There will be 16 Historically Black Colleges and Universities present with five being in the Mid-Eastern Atlantic Conference.
This is the fifth year that this race has taken place. Last year, the Aggies had great results at this meet. The men took second place with Junior Saeed Jones leading the men with a seventh place finish at 26:56. Junior Christian Harrison placed 21st at this meet running a time of 28:23. Sophomore Neegbeah Reeves placed 31st running 29:18. Those three gentlemen have already run faster times at previous meets this season. With the help of transfer Franky Mills and freshman Darren White the men chances of winning are greater.
The women placed fifth last season. Sophomore Janay Ferrell finished in 19:47, placing seventh. Redshirt senior Janessa Benn and Ferrell have both ran sub 20-minute 5k’s this season.
“This is one of the biggest test that we had this year in addition to Elon Invitational, so we’re looking forward to it,” said coach Duane Ross.
Last weekend the men and women had some great performances. Benn ran a 6k-personal best with a time of 22:59 and White finished first for the men and ran a time of 26:50.
