Men's Golf In Fourth After First Round of BCHOF
NEWMAN, Ga. (September 28, 2018) –Freshman Xavier Williams started a promising collegiate career on Friday by leading the North Carolina A&T men’s golf team in their first round of golf to open the 2018-19 season. Williams is in sixth place at the Black College Hall of Fame Golf Invitational at the par-72, 6,954-yard Summer Grove Golf Club Course.
Williams shot even par on Friday. He placed three birdies on his scorecard during his debut including two par 4’s. Williams’ first round has the Aggies in fourth place going into Saturday’s final round. The Aggies shot a 10-over 298, seven strokes behind leader Prairie View A&M. Alabama State is two shots off the lead while Florida A&M is in third at 6-over. Savannah State rounds out the top-5 five strokes behind the Aggies at 15-over.
Sophomores Stefan Holczer and Cody Lisner had the second-lowest scores for N.C. A&T. They are tied for 13thafter shooting a 3-over 75. Holczer’s lone birdie on the day occurred on the par-5, No. 14 as he finished the day with 14 pars. Meanwhile, Lisner posted three birdies during the first round. He took care of the par 5’s by birdieing No. 8 and No. 11. He also birdied the par-4, 17 on what was an up and down day for him. He bogeyed four times and had a double bogey on the par-4, No. 12.
Freshman Diego Gonzalez didn’t have a bad collegiate debut himself. Gonzalez shot a 4-over 76 to finish tied for 22nd. One of his two birdies during Round 1 occurred on the par-3, 7. He also birdied No. 11. Sophomore Casey Lindo shot 6-over with two birdies during his round.
Williams is six shots off the lead behind tournament leader Lorenzo Elbert of Prairie View A&M. Williams will try to move up the leaderboard on Saturday as he and his Aggie teammates return to the course.
