ST. AUGUSTINE’S Fla. –The men’s golf team completed the Lonnie Barton Invitational at the par-72, 6,816-yard LPGA International Golf Course on Tuesday tied for 15th. The Aggies were tied with Midway University after shooting a 63-over, 639.
Bethune-Cookman won the event at 8-over, 584 followed by North Alabama (28-over), Longwood (30-over), Wright State (37-over) and Drexel (39-over) in the top-5.
Freshman Diego Gonzalez was the Aggies top golfer. He shot a 5-over, 149 for the tournament to finish tied for seventh place with North Alabama’s Jackson Wedgeworth and B-CU’s Jake Lane.
Drexel’s Connor Schmidt won the individual honor by shooting a two-day 3-under, 141. BCU’s Christian Hovstadius (even par) finished second. Longwood’s Brandon Weaver (2-over) and B-CU’s Lucas Jonsson were tied for third and Farleigh Dickinson’s Andrew Morris (4-over) and B-CU’s Dante Davis finished tied for fifth.
The only other Aggie in the top-5 was freshman Xavier Williams. He finished tied for 46thby shooting a two-day 13-over 157.
Gonzalez made his move up the leaderboard on the second day. He shot a 3-over, 75 Monday to finish tied for 17th. He moved up 10 spots on Tuesday by shooting a 2-over, 74. Cody Lissner finished tied for 82ndat 20-over.
