GRASONVILLE, Md. – The North Carolina A&T men’s golf team finished the first round of the Towson Spring Invitational on Saturday at the par-72, 6,624-yard Prospect Bay Golf Course.
N.C. A&T is in 15th place at 35-over 323, 36 shots behind leader Youngstown State. Youngstown State shot 1-under, 287 and leads second-place Long Island-Brooklyn by seven shots. Fairfield University and Sacred Heart are tied for third 7-over while Canisius College rounds out the top-5 in fifth in place.
Junior Cody Lisner led the Aggies by firing off a 5-over 77 to finish the first round tied for 36th. Freshman Diego Gonzalez also shot in the 70’s in the first round as he carded a 7-over, 79. He is tied for 54th.
Lisner started the day on the par-4, 401-yard, No. 10 by carding a six. He quickly recovered from the double bogey on the 368-yard, par-4 11th by birdieing the hole to get to 1-over. He finished the remaining back nine with four pars and three bogeys to close out with a 4-over, 36.
On the front nine, he opened with three straight pars before posting a birdie on the par-5, 556-yard No. 4. That, unfortunately, was followed with a double bogey. He ended the round with four straight pars.
Gonzalez also started on the 10th and approached the par-5, 604-yard, 18th 3-over.
Gonzalez birdied the hole to finish the back nine at plus-2. He bogeyed a par-5 (490 yards) and par-4 (324) to open the front nine. He went on to par four straight holes before a bogey derailed him on the par-3, No. 7 (206) and a double bogey on the par-4, No. 9 (379) had him finishing the round at 7-over.
Austin Trent and Stefan Holczer also scored for the Aggies on Saturday. The Aggies will close out the Townson Invitational on Sunday.
