Women's Golf Adds Park for the 2017-18 Season
GREENSBORO (June 1, 2017) – North Carolina A&T women's golf coach Richard Watkins announced the signing of BoYoung Park (5-foot-4, Tyler Junior College, Incheon, South Korea) to wear the Aggie Blue & Gold for the 2017-18 season.
“Our program just got remarkably better,” said Watkins. “It is not going to be too much of an adjustment for Boyoung to play on the Division I level like it would be for a player coming out of high school because she is already used to playing on longer courses. In fact, she has already been successful on 5,700, 5,800-yard courses. The scores we had to count this year, we're not going to have to count next year and that means women's golf is progressively improving and that is what we want.”
Park spent two seasons at Tyler Junior College. She qualified for the 2017 National Junior College Athletic Association Women's National Championships where she finished 40th to help the Apache finish third nationally. She shot a second-round 8-over par 71 and a fourth-round 7-over 79 on the 6,109-yard Chateau Elan Golf Course in Braselton, Ga. In February, she won the TJC Spring Intercollegiate by shooting a two-round 7-over par 72 on the 5,887-yard Oak Hurst Golf Couse in Bullard, Texas. She shot a second-round 73 to help Tyler JC win the tournament.
Two weeks later, Park finished tied for second at the Pinecrest Intercollegiate. Park led the Apache by shooting a two-round 5-over par 72 on the 5,803-yard Pinecrest course in Longview, Texas as TJC won the tournament by 37 strokes. In the first round, Park shot 1-under.
In two seasons at TJC, Park played in 18 tournaments, winning three of those tournaments. Her highest national ranking over those two years was 21. In 41 rounds played, her average score was 79.24.
