GULF SHORES, Ala. –The North Carolina A&T women’s golf team opened the 2019 Bama Beach Bash Friday morning by shooting a first-round 60-over par, 348 at the par-72, 6,002-yard Gulf Shores Golf Course to finish the day in 12thplace.
Bethune-Cookman is in first place after Day 1 at 9-over, 297 followed by South Alabama (303), UAB (311), Cincinnati (317) and McNeese State (318) in the top-5.
The lowest score of the day for N.C. A&T came from freshman Christyn Carr who fired off a 5-over, 77 to finish tied for 11thafter the first round. Carr placed three birdies, four bogeys
Sophomore Madison Harriman was 9-over on the day as she wrote down one birdie, eight bogeys and one double bogey on her card. Harriman is tied for 24thafter Round 1. Juniors Jocelyn Andrews and Cheyanne Stewart also scored for the Aggies on Friday.
Carr started on the back nine where she opened the day with a par at the par-4, 381-yard No. 10. She was at plus-6 when she reached the par-5, 504-yard 18th. Carr birdied the hole to head to the front nine at 5-over. She never got lower than 5-over on her second nine.
She stayed at 6-over from the fifth through the eighth hole before she came to the par-5, 463-yard fifth where she birdied to close out her day.
Harriman also started at the par-4, No. 10. She went through the back nine without a birdie and parred only three holes. Her front nine saw her birdie the par-3, 148-yard No. 4 before closing out her round with three straight par putts.
N.C. A&T’s first golfer will tee off at 9:20 a.m., Saturday.
