Women's Golf Returns For Season 2
GREENSBORO (August 10, 2017) – Fresh off what a successful first season, the North Carolina A&T women’s golf team released the schedule that will make up their second season as an NCAA program on Thursday.
Among the highlights for Year 1 of the program included finishing second at the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Showcase and second at the Savannah State Fall Tiger Invitational. They also finished fourth at the prestigious PGA Minority Collegiate Golf Tournament.
“I think our second season can be even better,” said N.C. A&T head coach Richard Watkins. “We’ve added talent that I think will elevate our play. As you’re building a program you want to see gradual improvement each season, and I think we will have that this season.”
Season 2 will begin Monday, September 25 when the Aggies travel to Hampton, Va., to play in the Hampton Invitational. The tournament will end on September 26. The following the week the Aggies will return to the UNCG Starmount Invitational at Starmount Forest Country Club. Jill Harvison finished 10th at the tournament after shooting a 77 each of the three rounds played.
N.C. A&T will play in the Winthrop Eagles Invitational Oct. 21-22 on the par 72, 5,993-yard Rock Hill Country Club course. The Aggies will try to improve on their Savannah State Fall Tiger Invitational finish when they return to the tournament, Oct. 30-31 at the par 72, 5484-yard Crosswinds Championship Golf Course. It will be the Aggies final tournament of the fall semester.
Spring semester begins Feb. 26-27 with the Aggies returning to the 2017 Oyster Shuck Match Play hosted by The Citadel at the par 72, 5,974-yard Patriots Point Links in Charleston, S.C. Sofia Alvarez went 3-0 in match play during last season’s event. The Aggies have two March tournaments starting with the B-CU Lady Wildcats Invitational at the par 72, 5,952-yard LPGA International golf course, March 3-4 in Daytona Beach, Fla. Their next March tournament is March 16-18 in Gulf Shores, Ala., as the participate in The Bama Beach Bash at the par 71, 5,945-yard Gulf Shores Golf Club.
The Women’s Collegiate Golf Championship will take place April 9-11 in Fayetteville, Ga. The Aggies will also participate in the MEAC Invitational and the PGA Minority Collegiate Golf Tournament. Dates have not been set.
