Softball Announces Recruiting Class

GREENSBORO (January 29, 2018) – North Carolina A&T softball coach Kenya Peters has announced her latest recruiting class on Monday.  Tivonia Cole (5-foot-6, Outfield/Infield, Cosby HS, Chesterfield, Va.), Dominque “Nikki” Varela (5-8, Catcher/Utility, Bishop Amat, El Monte, Calif.) and Alisa Maldonado (5-7 RHP/Utility, North Brunswick HS, Leland, NC) will wear the Aggie Blue and Gold starting in 2018.

“Each of these young ladies come in with knowledge of the game,” said Peters. “Their intellect and study of the game really impressed me. I look forward to seeing them grow and have an impact on the Aggies softball program.”

Cole played three varsity seasons at Cosby High School under coaches Raymond Jeter and Megan Fox. She plans to major in biology at N.C. A&T in hopes of being an OB/GYN in progression of becoming a reproductive endocrinologist. She earned several different academic honors while at Cosby including the Varsity Honor Scholar Award and she was a member of the Health Science Academy, National Beta Club, National Honor Society and Science National Honor Society.  Cole played her club softball with the VA Glory – Richmond Primier. She will likely be an outfielder for the Aggies.

Verela will be a bilogy major with hopes of being a surgical orthopedic physicians assistant. She played two varsity seasons under coach Kristen Dedmon. She played her club softball for the California Panthers. She has a better than 3.5 grade point average and has first honors in English and second honors in antomy and physiology. Peters described her as a fiesty young catcher with good fundamental skills. “She’s a go-getter,” Peters added.

Maldonado played three varsity seasons under Corey Harrison and Morgan King. She played club softball at Carolina Cardinals 18U. She plans to major in nursing at N.C. A&T with designs on being certified registered nurse anesthetists. Maldonado was an A/B honor roll student all four years of high school and a member of the National Society of High School Scholars. Her primary position at N.C. A&T will be pitcher, but she could see some action as a middle infielder.
