GREENSBORO (May 9, 2018) – Despite having knee surgery over the summer, junior Zadaisha Waddell battled back and put together another strong season for the North Carolina A&T softball team.

Waddell impressive comeback yielded her first-team All-Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference honors as a utility player. The MEAC released their all-conference list on Wednesday with Waddell being the only Aggie to make one of the three teams voted on by MEAC head coaches and sports information directors.

“Teams pitched around her all year, but she remained disciplined at the plate and adjusted well,” said N.C. A&T coach Kenya Peters. “Zadaisha really carried us on offense this year. She had the best offensive season of her career.”

It is Waddell’s first, first-team selection after making third-team all-conference as a pitcher and a utility player as a sophomore. Prior to the 2018 season, Waddell was a first-team preseason selection as a utility player and second-team honoree as a pitcher after leading the Aggies in batting and ERA in 2017.

Waddell pulled off the same feat in 2018. She led the Aggies in batting (.356) and ERA (3.61). Waddell also led the Aggies in on-base percentage (.417), hits (37), RBI (22) and walks (10). She also led the team in multiple-hit games (11) and multi-RBI games (5).

As a pitcher, she pitched 99 innings and recorded 40 strikeouts, 27 walks, six complete games and two wins. Waddell was tied for the team lead in appearances (24) with Mohagony Headen. In the conference offensively, she ranked eighth in the conference in batting, ninth in on-base percentage and 16th in RBI. In the circle, she was second in the conference in games finished (14), third in games pitched in relief (16), 13th in ERA and 16th in innings pitched.

For her career, Waddell is batting .335 with 20 doubles, 8 home runs, 74 RBI and a .462 slugging percentage. As a pitcher, she has a career 4.03 ERA with 215 strikeouts, 17 wins and 94 appearances in 405 innings pitched.
