Women's Tennis Opens The 2018 Season
Greensboro, N.C. (January 13, 2018) – North Carolina A&T’s women’s tennis team is set to start their season at Elon on Saturday. The first match of the 2018 season is set to start at 10 a.m and they are looking to advance to the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference in April.
“The first and foremost goal of this season is staying healthy,” said N.C. A&T coach William Crutchfield. “That was something that hurt us last year because we did not have a full roster to play all the matches until the day before heading to the conference tournament. With that being said, that is the main focus this year other than winning.”
The Aggies are returning six players from last season and bringing in one new freshman. Those six include two seniors in Khalia Powell and Nadia Hilton-Adams, juniors Angelica Martinez and Fabiana Ramirez, and a pair of sophomores in Kanishka Chawla and Renata Rabadan. Nailah El-Amin is the lone freshman this season coming to us from St. Croix, Virgin Islands.
They are coming back after leading the women’s tennis program to its best season ever. The Aggies went 7-14 overall and 3-2 in the MEAC, advancing to the MEAC tournament.
The underclassmen will continue to look toward the seniors for guidance and leadership on and off the court. It is that kind of bond that Crutchfield has been working on with the team. The Aggies are again taking a philosophical approach to how they prepare and compete this year. Crutchfield is entering his second season at the helm and has worked relentlessly in turning around the Aggies tennis programs.
Women’s tennis will have its first home match at the Aggie Tennis Complex will be Jan. 22 against Radford. This will be the first of only four home matches this season. They are looking forward to the challenges they will be facing this year in some stiff competition.
