  • Freshman Edie Brewer is having an excellent start to her career. She is 10th in the nation in total service aces and 20th in service aces per set.
  • In the MEAC, Brewer is second in service aces (16) and ninth in assists per set (5.85), Jasmine Lindor ranks third in blocks per set (1.15) and fifth in hitting percentage (.270). Alyssa Pitt is sixth in hitting percentage (.270) and seventh in blocks (0.88).

  • N.C. A&T will host the Fighting Camels of Campbell University in a mid-week clash on Tuesday, Sept. 12 at 6 p.m. in Moore Gymnasium. In their last meeting, Campbell swept N.C. A&T in Gore Arena on Sept. 20, 2016.

  • The Aggies enter this weekend’s action leading the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) in opponent hitting percentage (.163). N.C. A&T ranks second in service aces averaging 1.63 per set while ranking fifth in both blocks (2.15) and hitting percentage (.147).

    AGGIES OVERVIEW: The Aggies return to Alabama for a four-match tournament hosted by Jacksonville State on Friday and Saturday. N.C. A&T will compete four times at the Pete Matthews Coliseum. N.C. A&T swept conference foe Delaware State in a non-conference contest in the opening match of last weekend’s Spartan-Aggie Invitational at Moore Gymnasium before falling in their final two matches to UNC Greensboro and Presbyterian. Six Aggies accumulated 20-plus kills in the three matches led by senior Alyssa Pitt’s 24. Pitt averaged 2.18 kills per set, hitting .219 on attacks and had nine blocks. Senior Samara Brown recorded her 13th career double-double, registering 11 kills and 15 digs against UNCG. Brown averaged 1.91 kills. 2.18 digs and 0.55 blocks over 11 sets played in the tourney. Senior Jasmine Lindor posted 14 blocks and 22 kills. Lindor recorded a career-high eight blocks against UNCG. Freshman Edie Brewer exploded this weekend for back-to-back double-doubles against UNCG and Presbyterian. The setter had 23 assists with 13 digs versus UNCG then later that day had 22 assists and 14 digs versus PC. Brewer averaged 6.18 assists over the weekend and 3.18 digs. She also excelled with seven aces nailing four against Delaware State. Freshman Milanna Morgan had double-figure digs in matches against Delaware State (13) and UNCG (15) while junior Megan Wiggins was second on the team in assists (27). Wiggins averaged 2.45 per set and had a season-high 13 against Presbyterian.

    JACKSONVILLE STATE GAMECOCKS OVERVIEW: Jacksonville State won two road matches this week.  The Gamecocks are on the incline winning six of their last seven matches including a 2-2 record last weekend at the Sawyer Camillo Memorial Classic hosted by Louisiana-Lafayette. JSU picked up wins over Nicholls State and Mississippi Valley State, but fell to Houston Baptist and the host Ragin’ Cajuns. Allyson Zuhlke leads the team with 3.48 kills per set, while Charis Ludtke is averaging 2.85 kills. Jennifer Hart is the lead assist person, averaging 9.15 assists. Hannah Kirk is tops in digs at 4.59 per set, while Mackenzie Romback is first in blocks at 0.84 per set. This will be the Gamecocks home opener.

    MISSISSIPPI VALLEY STATE DEVILETTES OVERVIEW: Mississippi Valley State enters this weekend with an 0-4 record. The Devilettes are averaging 5.7 kills, 1.0 service aces, 12.5 digs and 0.8 blocks per set. Kalin Barnes (2.46) is the only player posting at least two kills per set and leads defensively with 41 total digs. Jaime Polk handles the setting duties and is averaging 4.69 assists per set while both Joilyn Azore (0.33) and Haley Buard (0.31) are tops in blocks per set. MVSU is 0-3 in neutral site matches thus far. MVSU leads their conference in team digs through 13 sets at 12.54. Barnes is second in the SWAC in digs and third in kills.

    ULM WARHAWKS OVERVIEW: ULM have lost all seven of their matches this year and have yet to win a set against an opponent. The Warhawks are averaging 8.9 kills, 1.3 aces, 13.7 digs, 1.7 blocks and are hitting .093 as a team. Catherine Griffith leads the attack averaging 2.0 kills and 1.06 blocks while ranking second on the team in service aces with seven. Tara Jenkins averages a team-best 4.24 assists per set and Kacey LeBlanc averages 3.89 digs and 0.37 aces per set. Griffith is sixth in the Sun Belt Conference in blocks while LeBlanc is eighth in digs and tied for eighth in service aces.

    ALCORN STATE OVERVIEW: Alcorn State heads into this weekend’s tournament without a victory. The Braves, hitting .041 as a team, are averaging 6.9 kills, 0.5 aces, 10.2 digs and 0.7 blocks per set. Singryd Valadares averages 1.57 kills, Jasmine Chambers is the team-leader in assists at 3.82 per set and Fiapaipai Iosia carries the load on defense with 3.32 digs per set. Iosia’s 3.32 digs per set leads the SWAC. The Braves are 0-5 at neutral sites.
