JACKSONVILLE, Ala. (September 9, 2017) – North Carolina A&T volleyball took down Alcorn State 3-0 (25-16, 10, 13) in their final match of the Jacksonville State Invitational at Pete Matthews Coliseum. The Aggies began the final day of the Jacksonville State Invitational falling to ULM 3-0 (25-20, 25-17, 25-17). The Aggies ended the weekend in Alabama with a 2-2 record. The Aggies hammered the Braves with their third highest attack percentage of the season, .264.

Senior Samara Brown finished with 10 kills and three attack errors on 22 attempts for a .318 attack percentage. A season-high 12 services paved the way for the Aggies (5-6).

Freshman Edie Brewer led Aggies throughout the invitational and was named to the All-Tournament team for the second week in a row. Brewer averaged 6.83 assists per set on 82 total assists including a season-high 33 against Mississippi Valley State.

Senior Alyssa Pitt had a career-best six service aces, Brewer added three and freshman Courteney Pitt had a season-high two aces. Brewer recorded double-digit assists for the seventh straight match with 20 against Alcorn State. Freshman Milanna Morgan collected a match-high 11 digs and sophomore Camille Uadiale had a career-high three kills with a pair of solo blocks.

Alcorn State fell into an offensive slump in the first set midway through the action as N.C. A&T went on a monstrous run. After a 10-10 tie, Alyssa Pitt executed three aces and Brown fired five kills igniting a 15-6 run to close out the set.

The Aggies kept things rolling through the next two sets forcing the Braves into 15 combined errors. Brown made a team-high three kills in the second set and Courteney Pitt had three attacks in the third to help N.C. A&T hit .333 in the third set to complete the sweep of the Braves.

“We are happy to leave the state of Alabama with two additional wins”, said N.C. A&T coach Hal Clifton. “We played pretty well this morning against a well-balanced ULM team. There were some points that could’ve went our way but in the end it just didn’t. We didn’t execute well in the serve and pass game, so it was great to see us bounce back against Alcorn with solid serving and passing. We were able to stay within our system and that helped us out offensively. We learned a few things and we saw some areas that need attention. We competed and that was great to see.”

ULM’s attack held the Aggies to a season-low two team blocks and a .137 hit percentage. Alyssa Pitt produced a match-high nine kills on .368 attack percentage including five in the first set. Sister Courteney Pitt added five kills leading the offense in the third set with three while Lindor finished with three kills and a solo block. Brewer had 15 assists, five digs and three kills. Milanna tied a season-high with a pair of aces and led the way defensively with five digs.

N.C. A&T will host the Fighting Camels of Campbell University in a midweek clash on Tuesday, Sept. 12 at 6 p.m. in Moore Gymnasium.
