GREENSBORO (November 10, 2017) – North Carolina A&T volleyball suffered their first sweep in Moore Gymnasium this season after Bethune-Cookman cruised to a 3-0 (25-13, 10, 15) win Friday night. Freshman Edie Brewer had her 25th double-digit assist match with 16 and sophomore Christa Wilson had her eighth double-figure dig match with 10. Freshman Courteney Pitt finished with a team-high seven kills and a service ace. Seniors Samara Brown and Jasmine Lindor both tallied six kills while senior Alyssa Pitt chipped in with five kills.

“We did not execute tonight against Bethune-Cookman,” said N.C. A&T coach Hal Clifton. “When you do not execute you do not play well, and that is what happened tonight.”

The Aggies (14-12, 6-3 MEAC) committed nine costly errors against the balanced Wildcats (11-13, 8-1 MEAC) attack that hit .357 in the first set compared to .057 by N.C. A&T. BCU broke away from N.C. A&T after turning a 6-4 set into a 17-7 lead after an 11-3 run. Kills by Alyssa Pitt and Brown cut the deficit to seven at 19-12, but the set concluded with BCU sinking five straight points. The Aggies came up with a match-high 11 kills in the set with Courteney Pitt’s four kills and Brown’s three.

After A&T scored their first point of the second set on a service ace by Brewer, the Wildcats turned things around with four quick points on a pair of kills followed by two errors by the Aggies. Trailing 4-1, a kill by Alyssa Pitt, a service ace by Wilson followed by Brown’s kill tied things at 4. The teams battled as the set remained close until a 5-0 BCU run had the Aggies down 14-9. Alyssa Pitt ended the Wildcat run with her second kill of the set which would be the Aggies final point of the set. BCU exploded for 11 consecutive points and rolled to the set win.

Brown, Courteney and Alyssa Pitt each had two kills throughout the set as the Aggies struggled with a set-high 11 errors.

The Wildcats kept up the solid play in the third, hitting .250 with 15 kills, on five errors and 40 attempts. The Aggies lowered their errors to six but had a difficult time on the attack with only seven kills. Lindor powered the Aggies with a team-best three kills while the Aggie defense came up with their only blocks of the match in set three. Sophomore Camille Uadile and Alyssa Pitt combined for the first N.C. A&T to cut BCU’s lead to 15-8.

Courteney Pitt, Lindor and Brewer teamed for the next one making it, 19-11 followed by Courteney Pitt’s only service ace. BCU stretched their lead to nine on a kill and a ball handling error by the Aggies. N.C. A&T’s kill came from Lindor to make the score 21-13. One of five BCU errors in the set was the final Aggie point at 22-14. The Wildcats closed the set with three unanswered points sweeping the season series from the Aggies.

Alondra Bautista recorded a match-high 10 kills for BCU while both Alana Handy and Jai Chapman both finished with double-figure digs with 24 and 12 respectively.

N.C. A&T closes out their regular season on Sunday, November 12 at 2p.m. against Florida A&M in Moore Gymnasium. Seniors Alyssa Pitt, Jasmine Lindor and Samara Brown will be recognized prior to the match with the Rattlers.
