YOUR NORTH CAROLINA A&T AGGIES: North Carolina A&T volleyball team (0-3) looks to bounce back this weekend with a trip to Asheville, N.C., for the UNC Asheville Invitational this weekend.

The Aggies start the tournament with Dartmouth Friday at 4 p.m. Two more matches follow on Saturday with UNC Asheville at 12:30 p.m. and Eastern Kentucky at 4 p.m.

The Aggies went lost to Morehead State (0-3), at Winthrop (0-3) and Davidson (0-3) in Rock Hill, S.C., last week.  Junior outside hitter Courteney Pitt led the team with a combined 26 kills and 23 digs, while junior setter Edie Brewer combined to total 25 kills, a team-high 39 assists and 14 digs over the weekend.

Freshman setter Addy Warfield had a nice opening collegiate weekend with 35 assists and 17 digs in nine sets played, while sophomore libero Andrea Laboy-Rivera led the team with 37 digs for an average of 4.11 digs, which ranks second in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC).

The Dartmouth Big Green:  Dartmouth begins the 2019 season against the Aggies.  Last season, the Big Green went 10-15 overall and 5-9 in the Ivy League.  Nicole Liddle led the team last season with 2.37 kills per set, while Annemarie Horn led with 4.67 assists per set and Zoe Leonard led with 4.32 digs per set.  Liddle and Horn return for another season as sophomores, while Leonard was a senior last season.

The UNC Asheville Bulldogs:  The Bulldogs opened the season with a 3-0 sweep against Southern, but lost the next two matches against Long Beach State in five sets and at Georgia Tech in three sets in Atlanta, Ga.  UNC Asheville is led by Julia Borges with 3.00 kills per set, Grace Volk with 5.09 assists per set and Kasey West with 3.82 digs per set. 

Eastern Kentucky Colonels: EKU also started the season 1-2 with a win over Gardner-Webb (3-1) and losses to Kent State in three sets and at Charlotte in four sets.  The Colonels are led by Abby Noll with 4.00 kills per set, Rachel Woody with 9.45 assists per set and Dena Tekavec with 5.55 digs per set.

Career Watch: Pitt recorded eight kills at Winthrop to move her into ninth place in school history with 606 career kills and now has 617 kills.  Brewer needs 22 assists to move into sixth place in school history.  Right now, Brewer has 1,273 career assists and sixth place is Chelsea Fox, who recorded 1,294 career assists from 2011-13.

Up Next: The Aggies continue its Carolinas tour with a trip to Charleston, S.C., to face Charleston Southern Tuesday at 6 p.m. before heading to Spartanburg, S.C., for the Wofford Invitational.
