YOUR NORTH CAROLINA A&T AGGIES: After an exciting win Tuesday night, the North Carolina A&T volleyball team heads to Baltimore, Md., to face two MEAC Northern Division teams in Coppin State Friday night and Morgan State Sunday afternoon.
The Aggies are coming off a come-from-behind 3-2 win (27-29,22-25,25-1625-20,17-15) over chief rival N.C. Central Tuesday night at Moore Gymnasium for their second consecutive win. Outside hitter Courteney Pitt recorded a match-high 26 kills and the versatile Edie Brewer almost notched another triple-double with 17 kills, 32 assists and nine digs. She also added a career-high seven blocks while recording a. 310 hitting percentage.
Sophomore libero Andrea Laboy-Rivera recorded a match-high 30 digs and added seven assists, while sophomore middle hitter Shaylynn Hall led the team with eight blocks.
For the season, Pitt ranks second in the MEAC at 4.00 kills per set. She also averages 1.71 digs. Brewer ranks sixth in the conference at 5.83 assists per set. She is ninth in the conference in kills per set (2.83) and sixth in the league in hitting percentage (.274) while also averaging 2.48 digs.
Laboy-Rivera leads the MEAC in digs per sett (4.34) and sophomore middle hitter Shaylynn Hall ranks second in the conference in blocks per set (1.00).
The Coppin State Eagles: The Eagles have won all three home matches this season and are on a three-match winning streak. CSU is led by Miajavon Coleman with 3.72 kills per set, Brianna Lang with 7.31 assists per set and Ashley Roman with 4.07 digs per set.
The Morgan State Bears: The Bears have won two of the last three matches and both MEAC matches have gone to five sets. Morgan State faces N.C. Central Friday at night before playing the Aggies on Sunday. MSU is led by Zoe McBride with 4.61 kills per set, which leads the MEAC. Roi Wallace leads the MEAC in assists at 9.53 assists per set. Jennevy Santos averages 4.05 digs per set, which ranks fourth in the league.
Playing Well: In her last nine matches, Pitt is averaging 4.64 kills per set including four matches of 20-plus kills and was one kill shy of tying a school record with 32 kills against Western Carolina. Shabazz is averaging 2.81 kills and 0.69 blocks over the same span.
Brewer has recorded three triple-doubles which ranks her third in the nation. Laboy-Rivera is averaging 4.67 digs and Hall is averaging 1.12 blocks over the Aggies last nine matches. Laboy-Rivera is 69th in the nation in total digs (243).
Career Watch: Pitt’s 822 career kills are seventh all-time in school history. She is seven kills shy of sixth place which is held by Aleena McDaniel (2012-15).
Brewer has 1,572 career assists and needs 52 assists to move into fourth place in school history. Gina Renzaglia (1999-01) holds the fourth spot with 1,623 career assists.
Brewer also has recorded 89 career service aces and needs 22 service aces to move into sixth place ahead of Judith Ball (2001-03).
Laboy-Rivera entered the top-10 in digs in school history after recording 30 digs against NCCU. She is eighth all-time with 661 career digs. McDaniel holds the seventh position with 679 digs.
