GREENSBORO (June 22, 2018) – North Carolina A&T State baseball’s Dawnoven Smith (6-foot-1, Jr., right fielder, Jacksonville, N.C.) was named a second-team North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) selection.
Smith, a first-team All-Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference recipient, earned all-tournament team honors after helping the Aggies win the 2018 MEAC Baseball Championship Tournament by going 3-0. Smith finished 2018 by leading the conference in doubles (19), doubles per game (0.39), runs per game (1.00) and slugging percentage (.601). He ranked second in RBI per game (0.96), seventh in both batting average (.335) and hit by pitch per game (0.26) and was eighth in hit by pitch (12).
He was named conference player of the week twice during the season. Smith hit .335 with a team-best 48 runs scored, 45 RBI, .600 slugging percentage, 19 doubles, and eight home runs.
After Smith helped the Aggies capture their first MEAC tournament and regular-season title in 13 years, the Aggies made their second-ever appearance in the NCAA Baseball Championship Tournament by reaching the Chapel Hill Regional. Smith helped the Aggies win 27 of their final 40 games before the regional.
Over those final 40 games, Smith hit .377 with five home runs, 36 RBI and 19 doubles with a .638 slugging percentage and a .467 on-base percentage. The Aggies closed the season with a school-record 32 wins as they finished 32-25 overall. They also broke the school record for conference wins by going 16-8.
