EAST GREENSBORO – North Carolina A&T had a 4-0 and week in baseball and two players were rewarded for the prosperous week.
Senior RHP Tim Luth was named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) pitcher of the week and freshman Tony Mack was named MEAC rookie of the week.
Luth earned his second pitcher of the week honor this season in much of the same manner he won the first. In a 3-0 win over Bethune-Cookman in Daytona Beach, Fla., on March 22, Luth pitched a complete-game, three-hit shutout where he walked one and struck out three.
Earlier this season, Luth had a no-hitter going into the eighth inning against Northern Kentucky on Feb. 24 before surrendering the only hit of the game in the Aggies 3-0 win. Luth is 3-1 on the season with a 3.40 ERA.
Mack has started the Aggies last six games and has taken advantage of the playing time. For the week, Mack was 4-for-13 with two runs scored, three RBI and he was 3-for-3 in stolen bases.
His biggest game of the week came against Bethune-Cookman on March 24. Mack went 3-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBI in the Aggies 8-7 win in 11 innings. Mack helped the Aggies get to extra innings by leading off the visitor’s ninth with a single. He eventually tied the game at 7 by being forced home on a bases-loaded walk.
